For generations, the Heddon Torpedo series of lures has been in anglers’ tackleboxes. The Heddon Torpedos are considered to be amongst the most widely used of all topwater lures. With more than 13 million Torpedos being sold to date, The Heddon Torpedo lure is the highest selling propeller-equipped surface bait in the world.

They are known for their wild splashing topwater disturbance and for some anglers, the only topwater bass fishing lure they carry in their tackle box. Of all the torpedo lure reviews that I have read before buying a few myself, I have not found anyone that had anything bad to say about any of the Torpedos. Several even mention that on the first cast they get action with this lure. I have to say, it was the 2nd cast for me! Some folks stated that they only tie this lure on and don’t bring any others with them. The tacklebox stays at the house!

There are several colour choices for the Torpedos, and there are 3 distinct types or sizes. To start, there is the Teeny Torpedo, which is idea for light tackle. This lure attracts all panfish species, bass and trout. Secondly, there is the Tiny Torpedo. The Tiny Torpedo is used to haul in the largemouth and smallmouth bass. Lastly, you have the Baby Torpedo. The Baby Torpedo was created for the larger of the gamefish. When fishing the Baby, grab your net for the big musky, bluefish, redfish, northerns, stripers and more.

The Torpedo lures mimic wounded baitfish fluttering on the top of the water. Of course, the big predator fish see this as an easy meal ticket and surely don’t want it to go to waste. Also, they don’t want any other hungry fish to get to it first so they attack it with a vengeance. These Torpedos can be cast quite the distance as well. They have an aerodynamic design allowing them to fly through the air and drop in the hot spots.

A bit about Heddon lures in general. Mr. James Heddon is the founder of the Heddon lure company and accredited with creating the first artificial fishing lure. The Heddon lure company opened up in Michigan, in the U.S., many years ago. Heddon lures are known to be sturdy and deadly in the waters. They always attract the fish and keep them on the line. Fishing enthusiasts who collect antique lures always have Heddon lures among their collection.

Heddon has produced many lures over the years and the quality remains the same. In addition to the Heddon Torpedo Lure Series, there is the Heddon Spook Series of lures available on the market that are being fished today, as well as being added to lure collectors bragging boxes.

With the Heddon Spook Series of lures, you have the Heddon One Knocker Spook, the Heddon Rattlin’ Spook, the Heddon Super Magnum Spook, the Heddon Magnum Spook, the Heddon Super Spook, the Heddon SwayBack Spook, the Heddon Zara Spook, and the Heddon Wounded Zara Spook.
